CHROMIUM PICOLINATE = WEIGHT LOSS ?
Chromium picolinate is a nutritional supplement that works to increase the efficiency of insulin to optimal levels. The most common usage for chromium picolinate as an aid to weight reduction, suggesting that this supplement can melt fat, drastically reduce appetite and increases metabolism are endemic, which had the popularity of chromium picolinate in our food culture. Chromium is also believed to process carbohydrates and fats to help in the body. One form of chromium picolinate in particular, is popular because it is one of the forms is more readily absorbed. A 1995 study by Diane Stearns, Ph.D., conducted at Dartmouth College created a controversy over the safety of chromium picolinate. Researchers have high concentrations of chromium picolinate, chromium chloride, chromium nicotinate or hamster cells in culture and found that chromium picolinate may alter genetic material of cells of hamster. Since then, other studies using cell cultures and laboratory animals have suggested that chromium picolinate is a cause of oxidative stress and DNA damage. Critics say that scientists have used inappropriately high doses and that the administration of chromium for the cells in the test tube is not the same that taking chromium supplements orally.
Little information about the security of Chrome .
In 2004 the Institute of Medicine of the information on the safety of chromium for a prototype monograph reviewed and found that chromium picolinate is safe when used in accordance with the published clinical data (used for up to 1, 6 mg chromium per day or picolinate 200 microgram chromium per day for 3-6 months). There were chromium picolinate been rare cases of side effects after taking supplements. In another case, a man of 24 years had a supplement containing chromium picolinate for two weeks, taken during his training sessions developed acute renal failure. There is concern that chromium picolinate may affect levels of neurotransmitters (chemicals in the body that transmit nerve impulses.) Chromium picolinate may have an additive effect when combined with medication for the treatment of diabetes and glucose in the blood by dip too low. Chromium supplements with drugs that the formation of prostaglandins (hormone-like substances) such as ibuprofen, indomethacin, naproxen and aspirin can increase the absorption of chromium in the body block taken. The safety of chromium in women who are pregnant or breast-feeding is not proven picolinate.
Chromium picolinate = weight loss ?
Since the ability of chromium picolinate is determined to reduce fat while maintaining and increasing lean muscle mass, relevant studies examining body composition. These measures generally include percent body fat, body weight and muscle mass. An article by grant et al (1997) studied the effects of chromium supplementation in a population of obese women. The subjects were both 200 mcg of chromium picolinate or placebo, with or without exercise. The measures employed by grant et al (1997) study, body weight, body fat, fat mass and lean mass. First, the coupling of chromium picolinate and exercise revealed no significant weight loss compared with controls, supporting trent thieding & style (1995) and the general conclusion that chromium picolinate does is not to improve weight loss. A sample of normal men is considered in a third study to examine the effects of chromium picolinate on weight loss and body composition (lukaski et al, 1996). Again, the experimental group participated in an exercise program with chromium picolinate supplementation in the control group treated with placebo. In addition, it had no effect on fat loss in both groups (lukaski et al, 1996).
One group was supplemented by the formation of chromium picolinate and the other group took placebo tablets. In general agreement with previous studies, chromium picolinate was not found to reduce body fat and increase muscle mass and strength. A study shows that chromium effective aid to weight loss picolinate. Several studies on animal subjects also support fat loss and muscle structure (eg mooney et al, 1995, lindemann et al, 1995). An important side effect is that all groups involved in studies of chromium picolinate, subjects of particular groups of overweight lose weight and body fat administered, if enrolled in training programs of the exercise. Although weight loss chromium picolinate does not improve as expected, participants still lost weight and gained strength training.
