ARGAN OIL AND BENEFITS FOR SKIN, HAIR, AND BODY

Argan oil comes from the nuts of the Argan tree (Argania spinosa). The argan tree produces nuts from which is extracted a very nutritious oil. Argan oil is produced from the kernels of argan tree fruit. Traditionally the oil is produced by hand. Legend has it that there’s another way to produce this precious oil: Breaking open the nut shells is really hard work and the Moroccans have found that it’s easier wait for their goats to eat the fruit (yes, goats are big fans of argan fruit. The seeds pass through the goat’s digestive track and emerge on the other end a bit softer since they’re partially digested. The good news is that the post-goat seeds are much easier to break open.

The fruits of the Argan tree are green. The nut can contain up to three kernels from which the argan oil is extracted. The manual method consisted in first, extracting the nut of the fruit then cracked the hard nut's shell to collect the kernels. Recently mechanical presses have been introduced to extract argan oil. This process reduces considerably the time needed to extract 1 liter of oil. This oil is a cold first pressed oil which means a high nutritive quality. The argan oil is slightly darker than olive oil and has a nutty flavor.
